Why learn with an instructor in Phuket instead of “just renting a scooter”
Phuket is where most first-time riders in Thailand get on a scooter — and where most tourist bike accidents happen. The island drives on the left, the west-coast roads climb steep passes between Patong, Karon and Kata, afternoon rain turns asphalt slick, and police checkpoints at Chalong Circle and Karon check licences every day.
A 2-hour lesson on a closed ground teaches balance, both-brake stops and slow U-turns before you ever meet traffic. The city stage then puts you on real roads with the instructor beside you: lane position on the far left, U-turn pockets, roundabouts. The mountain pass is the final exam — engine braking downhill, throttle control uphill.
There is also a legal side. In Thailand any scooter — even a 110 cc rental — requires a category A licence. A car licence alone does not cover it, and insurers refuse payouts for the wrong category. That is why the school combines lessons with help getting a Thai licence: category A for 11,000 ฿, category B for 15,000 ฿, in 5–7 working days.
Training grounds: Mai Khao · Bang Tao · Kathu · Phuket Town · Chalong · Rawai. Lessons 7 days a week, 07:00–18:00.
How it works
- 1Leave a request — the school manager contacts you the same day to pick a date and a start point.
- 2Trial lesson of 2 hours on the training ground: basics, balance, braking.
- 3The instructor proposes a program — single lessons or a package, from the ground to the city and the mountain pass.
- 4Transfer to the training ground and back to your hotel: south of the island $5, north $10 (cars: 300 ฿).
FAQ about lessons in Phuket
How much does a scooter lesson in Phuket cost?
A 2-hour lesson on an automatic scooter is $60, on a manual bike $90. Packages: 3 lessons $165, 5 lessons $250. Transfer to the training ground is paid once: $5 in the south of the island, $10 in the north.
Do I need a licence to start lessons?
No. Lessons start on a closed training ground, so no licence is required. When you are ready, the school helps you get a Thai licence: category A (motorbike) 11,000 ฿, category B (car) 15,000 ฿, 5–7 working days.
How many lessons do I need to ride confidently?
Most complete beginners ride confidently in city traffic after 3 lessons (ground → city). Nervous riders or those who want the mountain pass usually take the 5-lesson package.
I have a car licence but never rode a scooter. Can I learn?
Yes, this is the most common student. Note that in Thailand any scooter requires category A — a car licence alone does not cover it, and insurers refuse claims for the wrong category. We teach you to ride and help with the category A licence.
Is the gear included?
Yes — a helmet and protective gear are provided; you ride the instructor's bike or car.
Where are the lessons held?
Training grounds across Phuket: Mai Khao, Bang Tao, Kathu, Phuket Town, Chalong and Rawai. The city stage runs on real roads with the instructor next to you; the final stage is a mountain pass.
What language does the instructor speak?
Instructors speak English and Russian.
Do you also teach car driving?
Yes — automatic cars, lessons of 1, 1.5 or 2 hours, from 2,000 ฿ per lesson, packages of 3, 5 and 10 lessons. Transfer for the first car lesson is 300 ฿.
How can I pay?
THB, USD, RUB or USDT — the school manager confirms the details after your request.
How fast do you reply and what are the hours?
The manager contacts you the same day. Lessons run 7 days a week from 07:00 to 18:00.
