Why go to Angkor from Phuket
Angkor is one of the world's great archaeological sites, and a flight from Phuket makes it possible to see it without a long trip. In two days you get the essentials: Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument on earth, the ancient royal city of Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm, the temple left in the grip of the jungle that famously appeared in Tomb Raider.
Day one: Siem Reap and the Apsara show
After a hotel pickup around midday you fly from Phuket International Airport to Siem Reap, where the visa is issued on arrival and your guide is waiting. The afternoon is a sightseeing tour of the town, followed by check-in and dinner with the Apsara show. Apsara is the classical Khmer dance, once performed by women revered almost as goddesses, and the restaurant serves a varied menu including Cambodian dishes. The rest of the evening is free for bars, restaurants or a massage.
Day two: the temples of Angkor
After breakfast and check-out you head into the Angkor complex. The route covers Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the Bayon temple at its center, Ta Keo, one of the first Angkor temples built of sandstone in the temple-mountain style, Ta Prohm, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, and Baphuon, a three-tiered pyramid dedicated to Shiva. Lunch is followed by the transfer to the airport and an afternoon flight back to Phuket.
