Why stay overnight in the Similans

A Similan Islands overnight tour lets you enjoy the archipelago when the day-trip speedboats have gone. Evenings and early mornings are the calmest hours at sea: you watch the sun go down from the deck, spend the night in an air-conditioned cabin and are already on the water at sunrise, with time to snorkel in open water before the next island.

How the two days flow

Day one starts with an early hotel pickup and a transfer to Thap Lamu pier, where the guide briefs the group over a light breakfast. The speedboat heads to Koh Payu (island No. 7) for snorkeling, then to Koh Miang (No. 4) for lunch and beach time. In the afternoon you check into your cabin, snorkel again in open water and have a BBQ dinner as the sun sets.

Day two begins with sunrise on deck and a generous breakfast, followed by another open-water snorkeling session. After a seafood lunch you check out and transfer to the speedboat for Koh Bangu (No. 9) and finally Koh Similan (No. 8), with its beach and the Sail Rock viewpoint. The boat returns to port for dinner before the drive back to your hotel in the evening.

Getting there and who it suits

Be ready for a long journey: the minivan ride to Thap Lamu takes one to three hours depending on your hotel, followed by one to one and a half hours on a speedboat. The guide speaks English. Pregnant women are strictly not allowed on speedboats, so let our manager know about a pregnancy when booking.

Practical tips

Coral shoes are strongly recommended for the reefs and rocky entries. Pack swimwear, a light jacket for the evening on deck, sunscreen, a hat and any medication you need for motion sickness. Masks, fins, meals and drinks are provided. The Similan Islands national park is open roughly from mid-October to mid-May, and the program can change because of weather.
