Guides on this trip are escorts rather than storytellers: they brief you, lead the group and help on the water, with no historical commentary. You ride modern 2024 jet skis – Yamaha 1100cc or Sea-Doo GTX 1630cc depending on the route – through mangrove canals (when the water level allows), past marinas and limestone islets, and stop wherever the swimming is good.
How to choose a route
3 Islands + Elephants is the short taster of about two hours: Koh Mali from the water, a beach where you can photograph and feed elephants, a mangrove canal and Rang Yai. Meals are not included, so it suits a quick morning or afternoon slot.
7 Islands Drive takes about four hours and is all about riding: Rang Yai, Mali, Lipi, Yao Yai and the three Khai islands, a mangrove canal, a snack stop on a Khai beach and snorkeling. 7 Islands + Elephants mixes riding with the elephant beach, lunch at a floating restaurant, Coconut Island and Rang Yai, where you may spot trained monkeys collecting coconuts.
The two recommended routes go further. 8 Islands Drive includes Rang Yai, Naka Yai and Naka Noi with lunch, a swim at Dragon Island or Phae Island, Ao Po Grand Marina and an island of wild crab-eating macaques. 9 Islands Drive runs in the afternoon with an English-speaking guide and adds the Sob Islands – a pair of rock towers often called James Bond Island 2 – plus lunch on Naka Yai and a walk on the Phae Island sandbar at low tide. Both include jet ski damage insurance.
Rules and tips
Most routes offer a morning or an afternoon departure. Pregnant travelers are strictly not allowed to ride, and anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be refused. Two adults and one child can share a jet ski of at least 1600cc if the total weight is under 160 kg, for a surcharge – ask our manager when booking. Transfers from remote areas cost extra. Bring sunglasses with a strap, reef-safe sunscreen and a dry bag for your phone.
