Phi Phi Islands vs Similan Islands: Which Phuket Tour is Better?
A detailed comparison of Phuket's two most popular island tours — Phi Phi and Similan. We compare prices, snorkeling, crowds, and seasonal availability.

Phi Phi: The Iconic Experience
Phi Phi is Thailand's most photographed destination. The towering limestone cliffs, the turquoise water of Maya Bay, and the vibrant snorkeling at Pileh Lagoon make it unforgettable. It's available year-round and has more tour options (speedboat, longtail, big boat, private charter).
The downside? Crowds. Even with daily visitor limits at Maya Bay, Phi Phi gets packed — especially from December to March.
Similan: The Nature Lover's Paradise
If Phi Phi is the Instagram tour, Similan is the National Geographic one. The water visibility reaches 30+ meters, sea turtles swim alongside you, and the white sand beaches are some of Thailand's finest. The national park limits daily visitors, keeping it pristine.
The downside? Only open November–April. The 1.5-hour speedboat ride can be rough. And it's more expensive.
Our Verdict
First time in Phuket? Do Phi Phi — it's the classic Thailand experience everyone should have.
Returning visitor or serious snorkeler? Similan is worth every baht. The marine life is on another level.
Have time for both? Absolutely do both. They complement each other perfectly.
